Air Force PT Score Calculator FAQ

Common questions about the current USAF PFRA scoring system.

How is the Air Force PT score calculated?
The current PFRA scoring model is based on 100 total points: 50 points for cardiorespiratory fitness, 20 points for Waist-to-Height Ratio, 15 points for muscular strength and 15 points for core endurance.
What exercises can I choose for the Air Force PT test?
Strength includes standard push-ups or hand-release push-ups. Core endurance includes sit-ups, cross-leg reverse crunches or the forearm plank. Cardio includes the 2-mile run or 20-meter HAMR shuttle run.
What is the maximum Air Force PT score?
The maximum composite score is 100 points.
What is the minimum score needed to pass?
A composite score of 75 or higher is generally required, together with the applicable minimum component requirements. This calculator is intended as a preparation and estimation tool, not an official assessment.
How is Waist-to-Height Ratio scored?
WHtR is calculated by dividing waist measurement by height using the same unit. The current scoring chart awards up to 20 points. A ratio of 0.49 or lower receives 20 points, while 0.60 or higher receives 0 points.
Does age affect Air Force PT scoring?
Yes. Age and gender affect the performance thresholds for the exercise and cardio components. The WHtR scoring ratio itself uses the same ratio thresholds across the age and gender groups.
Is this calculator an official Air Force calculator?
No. This is an independent fitness preparation calculator. Always verify your current requirements and official score charts before an official assessment.

How the Air Force PFRA Score Works

The current Department of the Air Force scoring model combines four areas of fitness. Cardiorespiratory fitness is worth 50 points, Waist-to-Height Ratio is worth 20 points, muscular strength is worth 15 points and core endurance is worth 15 points.

Cardio — 50 Points

The cardiovascular portion includes the 2-mile run or the 20-meter HAMR shuttle run. Your age and gender determine the performance thresholds used for scoring.

Strength — 15 Points

You can use standard push-ups or hand-release push-ups. The scoring thresholds vary by age group and gender.

Core Endurance — 15 Points

The available core options include sit-ups, cross-leg reverse crunches and the timed forearm plank.

Waist-to-Height Ratio — 20 Points

WHtR is calculated by dividing waist circumference by height. Both measurements must use the same unit. Lower ratios receive higher scores on the current PFRA scoring chart.

Prepare for Your Next Air Force Fitness Assessment

Use your calculated score to identify the area where you have the most room for improvement. Improving running pace, strength, core endurance and body composition over time can help you prepare more effectively for your next assessment.
